MIDWIFERY & WOMEN’S HEALTH
MIDWIFERY is one of the oldest health practices, initially performed by experienced and elderly women who provided services to pregnant women who were about to give birth. Nowadays, this practice has become a medical profession in most countries, requiring a university education of 4 to 5 years. Midwives now take care of women’s health from adolescence to post-menopause, in a comprehensive approach.
Midwifery specializes in:
- pregnancy and childbirth
- providing comprehensive prenatal care and education
- guided labour and birth
- addressing the complications and care for newborns and breastfeeding
- advocacy in the prenatal and birth setting
- mentorship
Zenith runs Evidence Based Childbirth birthing courses and Pre and Post-natal classes, as well as free informal Meetups for our parenting community including information sharing and looking deeper at topics that effect the first year of this life changing journey in a non-judgmental and supportive environment.
OTHER WOMEN’S HEALTH SERVICES
Zenith offers a range of Women’s Health specific classes
These include pre and post-natal yoga, Pilates and the pelvic floor as well as one-on-one Therapeutic Pilates and Yoga consultations to address specific women’s health issues.
YOGA and PILATES both help build strength and keep women flexible and fit. Through the many physical and emotional changes in a woman’s life, yoga and Pilates can help balance hormones, keep weight in check, reduce symptoms of PMS and of menopause, and maintain a healthy digestive system. The weight bearing and resistance exercises in both yoga and Pilates can also assist in maintaining bone density.
Our health and wellness practitioners also treat a full range of women’s health issues.
PHYSIOTHERAPY can be an effective treatment for pelvic floor issues, and problems of prolapse and weakened abdominal muscles. During the ante- and post-natal period, physiotherapy can help with pregnancy related back, hip and pelvis pain, as well as repetitive strains from looking after a new baby.
TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE (TCM), acupuncture and herbs have long been used to provide relief to many gynaecological symptoms and diseases including:
- Menstrual pain and irregularities
- Endometriosis
- Abdominal masses and/or fibroids
- Menopausal symptoms
- Morning sickness, labour support and preparation
- PMS and other hormonally-based complaints
