Ashtanga Yoga follows Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras’ well-known eight limbs of yoga philosophy (astau-eight, anga-branch, limb, leg), taught in the tradition of Sharath Jois in Mysore, India. Each limb influences and we learn Yama and Niyama through yoga practices and daily life.
Ashtanga Yoga gives importance to constant, continuous, and deep breathing. Breathing guides the movement of the body, and the movement creates the asanas. It develops the body and mind which becomes smoothly, accurately, and stable.
Traditional Ashtanga Yoga guides Mysore-style “self-practice” in the morning and weekly Sanskrit counted Led class. Mysore style is the style in which Ashtanga Yoga is traditionally taught and practiced. It is the only true all-levels yoga class. This style of class is self-paced and each student is taught individually.
Led class is an important practice to a regular Mysore practice. The practitioners practice together with the teacher’s vinyasa count. It’s an opportunity to ensure each vinyasa is being learned and practiced correctly. The practitioners move and breathe together in sync.
I will provide an introduction to the fundamental elements of Ashtanga Yoga. This workshop is for both new to Ashtanga Yoga and experienced yoga students. Please join this workshop if you are interested in Ashtanga Yoga.
